Donald James Lanyon
Donald James Lanyon, 85, a resident of St. Simons Island, passed away Friday, July 24, 2009 at his residence.
Mr. Lanyon was a native of Stanford, CT and had been a resident of Glynn County since 1962. He was the son of the late Herbert B. Lanyon and the late Bertha Louise Lanyon. Mr. Lanyon graduated from Stanford High School in Stanford, CT. He attended Pratt Institute for one year before joining the Air Force to fly P51 Fighters in World War II.
Mr. Lanyon was the President and owner of Rent-All of Brunswick for 42 years. He was a member of the American Rental Association. He was an active member of St. Simons United Methodist Church. Mr. Lanyon resided on East Beach for many years until moving to Marshes Edge.
Mr. Lanyon is preceded in death by his loving wife Luanne Lanyon and his grandson Adam Lanyon Myers.
Mr. Lanyon is survived by his two daughters Leslie (husband Jim) Veres of Seattle, WA, and Cindy Lanyon of St. Simons Island, GA; two grandsons Steve Veres of New York City, NY and Jeff Veres of Atlanta, GA; one granddaughter Kathryn Lanyon of St. Simons Island, GA; his beloved dog, Muffin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 pm Monday, July 27, 2009 at St. Simons United Methodist Church with Reverend Benjy Varnell and Reverend Jim Jensen officiating. A reception will follow the service.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Veres, Steve Veres, Jeff Veres, Kelly Daniel, Kee Carlisle, Rick Horne and Jack Kite.
The family requests contributions be made St. Simons United Methodist Church at 624 Ocean Blvd. St. Simons Island, GA 31522 or the charity of donor’s choice.
